Delta Airlines
announces flight route to Cape Verde
US-based Delta Airlines announced
this week that it will be adding
fifteen new flight routes between
the United States and Africa. The
new measure will connect Sal’s
Amílcar Cabral International Airport
directly to the city of Atlanta, GA
and is aimed at helping the company
protect itself from the slowdown in
the economic sector by way of new
investments.
Delta Airlines recently finalized
the acquisition of its competitor
Northwest Airlines, thus creating
the world’s largest airline.
According to Reuters, American air
companies have been forced to invest
increasingly in international
routes, which are more profitable
than domestic flight paths.
The new destinations announced by
Delta include Cape Verde, South
Africa, Kenya, Liberia, Nigeria,
Angola, Equatorial Guinea and
Senegal. The company has affirmed
that the flights will begin
operating next summer. Other routes
are also expected to be announced
between the United States and Japan,
Sweden, Spain, the Czech Republic
and Switzerland.
The connection to Cape Verde will
take place through a stopover at
Amílcar Cabral International Airport
on the island of Sal. The final
destination of the route will be
Monrovia, Liberia, and is expected
to begin operating in June of 2009.
